Collage in Process
Skipping today's prompt for a peek at process
Happy Collage Friday!
My apologies, but prompt #21 will have to wait.
Instead, I hope you don’t mind a few process images from my day - starting with this image of an 18x24-inch piece on which I spent all day blocking out the negative space with white paint… and I’m still not done!
I’m excited where this piece is going - as it marks a breakthrough in my attempts at finding a way to express “lightness” in contrast to the ghostly images of foliage in my darker night scenery (like this piece on the easel behind this one on my studio table).
I also managed the process quite differently for this “light” variation, choosing a more structured approach to mapping out the foliage as opposed to my usual freestyle drawing method.
A few process photos showing the initial collaged materials, the botanical design I’m superimposing onto the collage (drawn in Procreate), manual transfer of the image using transfer paper, and the start of blocking out the negative space with white.

Needless to say, it was a looooong process!
I hope it may inspire new ways of thinking about your own collage process!
Happy collaging,
Jennifer

Genius! I’m so grateful that you shared your process! I kept looking at the final piece trying to figure it out. If we had a square inch available for another painting, I’d be pestering you to buy it.
Very cool 😎 🙌
